It is located in the Araucania Region, 100 km to the southeast of Temuco and 800 km aprox to the south of Santiago. Its setting on beautiful lake Villarrica and the amazing active volcano of the same name. A small town that is consider a mecca for adventure sports and nature lovers.
Due to its striking natural surrounding Pucón attracts tourism all year round and from all over the world. In winter and spring, it is possible to go snowshoeing or skiing/snowboarding on the slopes of Villarrica volcano or visit some of the thermal baths. In summer is a big playgorund that has something for everyone. Flyfishing, river floating trips, mountain bike, hiking, scenic flights, trail running, whitewater rafting, climbing volcanos, canyoning, via ferrata, rock climbing, skydiving, paraglading and more!
Pucon also offer quality accommodations from backpackers hostels to 5 stars hotels and a variety of good restaurants and microbrews.
Pucon was created in 1883 as a military settlement. Its main activity was the trade in timber and cattle, which was shipped through the Lake.
Since 1930, Pucon became the center of flyfishing in Chile and small hotels and residences were opened. In 1934 the Gran Hotel Pucon was built, this was a huge boost for tourism.
The boom of tourism in this area began when the road between Villarrica and Pucon was made. Today, Pucon is a landmark in Chile and South America for adventure tourism.
